The Merseyside Peoples Assembly
This is a call to all those in Merseyside and surrounding areas who face an impoverished and uncertain time and those willing to stand with them, as wages, jobs, conditions and welfare provision come under renewed attack by the government.
With the government lengthening the time it expects the cuts to last, we ask you to support the call for a Merseyside People’s Assembly Against Austerity. To bring together campaigns against cuts and privatisation with trade unionists and the wider community, in a broad movement for social justice.
We aim to develop a strategy for resistance to mobilise millions of people against the Tory government. The assembly will provide a forum for anti-austerity views which, while increasingly popular, are barely represented in Parliament.
We believe The People’s Assembly movement can play a key role in ensuring that this uncaring government faces a movement of opposition broad enough and powerful enough to generate successful coordinated action, including strike action. The assembly will be ready to support coordinated industrial action and national demonstrations against austerity, with an aim to help deliver a fairer society for the many, and not just the few.
