Usually, it takes between 3 and 8 months for an appeal to come before a Tribunal Judge. Given that there are 660,000 households affected by the Bedroom Tax, and as of 5 September 2013, there have been almost 350,000 visits to the appeal information at www.initiativefactory.org – you may have to wait a little longer for your tribunal hearing.

If your appeal is ‘out of time’, please ensure your reasons for being late are strong reasons, e.g. you were given incorrect information by your council. Otherwise, the Tribunals Service may decide that your appeal will not go ahead.

Your council will send a solicitor to argue their case. You can represent yourself or take a friend to support you. Read everything to help you put forward the strongest argument you can. The Tribunal Judge can only rule on points of law.
